Teaching...in all its techni-colour fun!

At Thornfield House, our teaching strategies are varied as they are interesting. We understand that children learn best when they have the means to take control of their own learning.

This means that sometimes that visitors can go from a lesson using a feely box to a lesson on superheroes, but you can be assured that we cover the curriculum to the very highest of standards.

Teaching...collaboratively with Speech Therapists

Pupils in Thornfield House need a little extra help with Speech & Language production. Our teachers work collaboratively with Speech Therapists who are based on campus.

Each pupil receives regular sessions with a speech therapist with a tailored programme to meet their individual needs.

Teaching...with the highest standards in ICT

Sometimes it can be difficult for schools to keep up with the skills and the constant updating of technology hardware. We recognised this and made a plan to get ahead. Thornfield House now has a computer & interactive whiteboard in every classroom; a dedicated ICT suite and 27 iPads to teach to current technology standards.

Did we mention that we are also are one of the few SEN Schools to be awarded the Becta Mark for ICT?

Teaching...for the good of the environment

Thornfield House are part of the eco-schools initiative. That means that we actively promote sustainable living through whole-school action that is supported by learning resources, management tools and the internationally recognised Green Flag system.

As part of this, we started our very own Thronfield House garden.
