Thornfield House supports pupils from right across the Province and referrals for placement are made via the various Education and Library Boards. Our school specialises in the support of pupils with Specific Language Impairments. In addition to a very skilled and committed team of teachers, classroom assistants and ancillary staff, Thornfield benefits from the support of a high level of Speech and language Therapy.
Collaboration is a key aspect in our approach and we have built up many very effective partnerships between teachers, therapists, assistants and a range of other professionals over the years.
Parent partnerships play an important part in our combined efforts and in Thornfield we endeavour to involved parents as fully as possible in all aspects of education. We place our students at the centre of our thinking and make every effort to cultivate the conditions where all pupils can flourish and achieve their full potential.
During the year 2006/2007 the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) carried out an inspection of our school and affirmed the excellent practice already in place. Their report praised the individual and collaborative effort of our school and the ETI were very impressed with the standard of education on offer.
